Pre-employment Process

Candidates selected for employment at William Paterson University receive an offer conditioned on the successful outcome of applicable pre-employment screening processes.  This offer is confirmed with detailed information regarding title, start date, annual salary and the new hire orientation process. Prospective employees may be subject to some or all of the below mentioned processes:

  • Background Investigation:
    All new hires (excluding students) are subject to a background investigation as a condition of employment. Conviction will not necessarily disqualify applicant from consideration of employment.
  • Physical Examination and/or Drug Screening:
    All new hires in Classified/Career Service titles must undergo drug screening test. In addition, candidates selected for a position in the Maintenance Operations and Public Safety must undergo a physical examination.
  • Professional Reference Verification:
    All new hires are subject to employment reference verification.
  • Degree Verification:
    Candidates for any position that requires a degree must provide an official transcript and may be subject to verification of degree credentials.
