A permanent promotion is an appointment from a lower to higher title in the career service competitive division using a NJ Civil Service Commission promotional certification list. Individuals on such promotional lists are notified of these opportunities via the Notification of Certification sent by the Office of Human Resources. Employees interested in the position are subject to an interview process. The candidate selected must successfully complete the Working Test Period to achieve permanent status in the title. A provisional promotion is an appointment from a lower to higher title in the career service competitive division when there is no list of eligible employees or an incomplete list (less than three) exists. Applicants will undergo an interview process and the selected candidate will be subject to the NJ Civil Service Commission examination process.
